The provisional government of Apple Inc, at your own risk, I tried to answer the criticism of those who, even at gunpoint would not have dared go to Mac. The updated MacBook Pro was better and cheaper, and for a fee of $ 300 has become the fastest Apple laptops for their 18-year history… As one would expect, the eternally dissatisfied, the community took the update… to put it mildly, ambiguous. Good to get used and stop noticing them. Batteries that cannot be replaced, Secure Digital slot instead of ExpressCard/34 in 15-inch models, and other controversial changes. Good and right was more, but that very few people thought to write – it’s not interesting to anyone. Stuck?
The provisional government? Steve promised to return to the helm in may-June, did not leave clear instructions for such a long time, and was temporarily unable to deal with complex issues. Mistakes and flaws were inevitable, they were committed, but in the main they coped.
Error? Tell about one of them. At a press conference on the opening of WWDC ‘09 (Pinout?), Phil Schiller announced that the number of users of OS X over the past two years, from 2007 to 2009, has tripled. And was approaching 75 million. Cheers?
Such bold claims are easily verified: for Apple since the early 80s, four times a year publishes data on the number of sold Macs, double-check by independent auditors. On January 1, 2007, the number of users of OS X (and the same number of sold Macs, population Hackintosh’she was never statistically significant) was close to the mark of 25 million. From 1 January 2007 to 8 June 2009 were added 29.5 million Macs. The increase in two times is more than great – but it’s not tripling!
If you add users of the iPhone OS, which Apple marketing persistently called OS X, all converge – a tripling! Steve never made a mistake would be stupid, and would not give it to anybody else. But…

Update MacBook Pro, map
That day updated one model MacBook Pro (identifier MacBookPro5,2), c 17-inch screen. And there were just 3 new models. As in the days of PowerBook!
About one of them, MacBookPro5,5 that “the former Unibody MacBook”, we wrote last time.
The other two models – 15-inch MacBook Pro, “economy” with only integrated graphics (MacBookPro5,4), and “real Pro” with two GPUs (MacBookPro5,3).
Magical transformation in “the fastest MacBook” was available only to the two of them, the most powerful and professional – MacBookPro5,2 MacBookPro5 and,3.
Common to all models announced July 8 – improved display with 60% color gamut (gamut). Prior to this, bright (glossy) and high-contrast displays MacBook s display only 6 bits per red, green and blue – and now this mystery was over. Fools are many in the world, so to decipher the essence of the changes did not. And the displays were good before and now even better.
All models came with Mac OS 10.5.7 and after the official release 10.6 with her.
Continue the story about a massive update with MacBookPro5,4.
15-inch MacBook Pro “economy class”
The MacBook Pro model ID MacBookPro5,4 was the only initial configuration, at a price of 1 699 $ (without taxes and fees).
Processor – Intel Core 2 Duo 2.53 GHz (P8600), with the second level cache 3 MB.
The clock frequency of frontal system bus – 1066 MHz, SATA II (3GB/s), drive capacity of 250 GB (5 400 rpm), 4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 (1066 GHz) SDRAM in two slots, 8x DL SuperDrive slot load, graphics processor NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, officially takes away from the total RAM of 256 Megabytes, but in reality – at least 272 MB.
Screen with a diagonal of 15.4 inches (39.1 per cm), glossy, led backlight, and expanded by 60% colour palette, with a native resolution of 1440h900.
It is in the base (initial) configuration. The options were many, for every taste. RAM you can (officially) be increased to 8 Gigabytes offered hard drives 320 and 500 GB (5 400 rpm or 7 200 rpm) and SSD capacity of 128 and 256 Gigabytes, and much more.
In August 2009 the option list added “anti-glare”, with opaque edging around the screen for $ 50.
Irremovable [user] battery with 1000 charge cycles, and a casual promise Phil Schiller to participate in the utilization of the computer exhausted recharge cycles… caused a storm of indignation. Really changed, more about that in the article.
Built-in AirPort Extreme and Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. About support 802.11/n could not write, by the time she was in all Macs.
Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T, Firewire 800, Mini DisplayPort, SD slot – all in one.
2 USB 2.0 ports.
The external monitor support resolution up to 2560×1600. Who lacked one external monitor using third-party adapters can plug into the USB ports, in this case, bringing their number to 3 – that’s only because of low connection speed capabilities of the monitors connected via USB was so-so.
15-inch MacBook Pro “spenders of the class”
The model identifier is MacBookPro5,3 had two primary configurations – Intel Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz (P8800) with 3 Megabytes cache second-level Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHz (T9600) with 6 MB cache. The first worth 1 $ 999, the second is 2, 299.
In the initial configuration 2 299 was the option that turns MacBook Pro “spenders of the class” in the fastest MacBook Pro – instead of the T9600 were asked to choose Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz (T9900) with 6 MB second level cache, for $ 300.
In both the initial configuration included 4 GB memory (PC3-8500 DDR3 (1066 GHz) SDRAM, the maximum amount which was 8 GB.
In the configuration with a 2.66 GHz included hard drive 320 GB (5 400 rpm), as the options were offered discs with the capacity 250 and 500 GB (5 400 rpm), 320 and 500 GB (7 200 rpm) and SSD capacity of 128 and 256 Gigabytes.
In the configuration with 2.8 GHz (from 3.06 GHz) – drive capacity of 500 GB (5 400 rpm), with options from the same list.
GPUs were two: integrated NVIDIA GeForce 9400M, robs the shared memory 272 MB and NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with its 256 M of video RAM.
Otherwise, the“spenders of the class” was identical to “economy class”.
17-inch MacBook Pro
ID have 17-inch model remained the same (MacBookPro5,2), it really felt a touch of conservatism. For example, slot Express/34 is left in its place.
Only basic configuration used Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 GHz (T9600) with 6 MB of cache second level. Which, by the customer, it was possible to replace Intel Core 2 Duo 3.06 GHz (T9900) for the same $ 300.
Screen with a native resolution of 1920×1200, led backlight, glossy but anti-reflective coating for him was offered as an option ($50) from the first day.
In the basic configuration is the same 4 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 (1066 GHz) SDRAM, with the same maximum of 8 Gigabytes. And the same disk 500 GB (5 400 rpm), with the same list of options as the 15-inch MacBook Pro “spenders of the class” with CPU speed of 2.8 GHz.
Except for the price (2 $ 499), the size of the screen and the housing, the slot Express/34 and 3-USB 2.0 ports (instead of 2), 17-inch MacBook Pro was identical to the 15-inch MacBook Pro with the same clock frequency (the same?).
If I replace the batteries…
The section name is taken from the song, author and artist of which I can’t remember.
It ran day and night and is very loud, some umopomracheniya neighbor, like in the 70s or 80s of the last century. The text etched in the memory. The meaning was clear: if he (the hero of the song) replace the batteries, everything will be fine again.
Non-replaceable battery, replace it… relatively easy. Here (duration 05:56):
