Apparently, Apple has problems not only with the smartphone market, but also in the segment of computers. As the research and consulting company Gartner, in the fourth quarter of 2018, the volume of Mac shipments declined 3.8%. And this in spite of the show and the beginning of sales of the updated Mac Mini, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with graphics Vega. What is the company doing wrong?
According to Gartner, for the last quarter of last year was shipped about 4.9 million Macs, taking the total market share of computers 7.2%. For comparison, over the same period of 2017 was delivered 5.1 million Macs. Interestingly, during the year, the market share has grown quite a bit — by 0.1%.
Also certain issues is the fact that even sales of the updated Mac Mini and MacBook did not affect the situation on the market. It is possible that this is due to the initially high cost of these products.
However, the decrease in supply is observed in other manufacturers of computers, except, perhaps, Dell and Lenovo. The largest decline was recorded on the Acer Grop, whose share fell by a record 18.3 percent. If you take the whole computer segment, total drop in sales was 4.3%
According to analysts, the reduction in supply may be due to a lack of processors, uncertain political and economic conditions and weak consumer demand. More and more people abandon computers because portable devices as well cope with a number of everyday tasks. To use social networks, watch movies, or perform other simple actions sometimes easier and more convenient on smartphones or tablets.
