Announcing Apple TV and iPhone, Steve removed the word “Computer” from the company name. Now it was called the Apple. Simple and tasteful. But computers have not only disappeared from the title, they stopped talking. They have ceased to declare. They also “removed”?

This pause was unexpected and frightening. Especially for programmers: is it time to look for another application of their forces to remember (or learn) the “enemy” of the system? Normal users everything is easier – a professional software designer or constructor are almost the same on both sides of the border between the platforms, and a specific reason to quickly change the computer and the platform, due to the same.

To invest time, effort and money in software for the platform, which will not be useless and unprofitable.

Information about the transfer of the release of Mac OS 10.5 “Leopard” due to the need to meet the deadline have been interpreted correctly, difficulties in any large and complex project the eternal and inevitable, it happens anything… But what’s the hardware developers?

Operating system iPhone’s the same kit (Mac OS X), only placed in the aquarium for gold fishes, and their food. Not a trivial task, but apparently still to be solved. Non-trivial methods. Iron the iPhone too specific.

Mobilization touched and developers of iron. The rest is unknown. Apparently, not without reason. Steve, at times, was a despot, but an idiot never.

February. To start selling Apple TV promised in February, but this did not happen. March. On March 21 Apple TV came out (came out?) the light of day. No word on Macs. April. May. And here, quoting jobs, happened, “Boom!” – May 15, 2007, after 6 month of silence, released a new Mac…

Funny – but true

The last computer announced by Apple Computer was a MacBook, ID MacBook2,1.

The first computer was Apple Inc… the MacBook, ID MacBook2,1.

It was a speed-bump, the jargon of journalists and computer “geeks”, which means “update with increased performance and configuration change,” and in the language of the ordinary people the so-called “speed bump.”

It seems that such phenomena are not very respected… But not this time.

Is it by chance the first and last was a MacBook? Who knows…

Black and white, now just “Apple”

Almost everything is the same, but this time it is even somehow comforting. The case is the same, made of durable polycarbonate, white or black (the Deluxe model) colors.

“Little things”, which previously I did not consider it necessary to mention, may be vain: the key when closing the housing, removed inland, away from the screen; locking the lid closed with no latch (on the magnet)…

The same MagSafe, SMS (is a fall detector that can save hard disk in a hard fall), ALS (ambient light sensor that adjusts the brightness of the screen backlight depending on ambient light), iSight, Apple Remote.

The same trackpad, with support for all advertised Apple multitouch gestures (something MacBook like iPhone, wow).

The clock frequency of frontal system bus – 667 MHz, the resolution on the main and external monitors, the same as before, 1280×800 and 1920×1200 on Apple DVI displays and 1600×1200 on VGA displays.

The same integrated graphics (Intel GMA 950) using 64 Megabytes total of memory, sometimes up to 80 Megabytes.

RAM – PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM (667 MHz),

And what has changed?

The basic kit all variants – 1 GB RAM (in previous versions cheapest option was completed 512 Megabytes).

All new models use the T7xxx processors. From the cheapest to the most expensive size of second level cache – 4 MB.

Improved optical disc drives in expensive models (see “Optical drives”)

Support 802.11 n enabled by default, to spend 1.99 dollar to activate the WiFi version in our online store is no longer necessary.

Higher clock frequencies of processors, hard drives of large sizes – and it’s… everything. Even the prices remained the same as before.

Optical drives

Remind: “multiplicity” for CD is equal to 150 kilobytes/s and for DVD is 1.4 MB/s. that is, the data transfer rate 24 × CD equal 150х24 kilobytes/s, or 3.53 MB/S.

The expensive variants – 8x DL SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW), with transmission rates in multiples of:

When writing to DVD+R DL – up to 4;
When recording to DVD-R and DVD+R – up to 8;
When recording on DVD-RW and DVD+RW – up to 4;
When reading a DVD to 8;
When recording CD-R up to 24;
When writing CD-RW discs – up to 10;
When reading the CD – 24.

The cheap option is still the same 8x Combo as before, (DVD-ROM/CD-RW) with transmission rates in multiples of:
When reading a DVD to 8;
When recording CD-R up to 24;
When writing CD-RW – up to 16;
When reading the CD – 24.

The processor in the cheaper option – Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz (T7200), same as in expensive modification options (Late 2006). Drive: 80 GB (5 400 rpm), (Late 2006) was the drive capacity of 60 GB (5 400 rpm)

Geekbench 2 scored, points. In the numerator – points option (Late 2006):

(32) 2610/2363
(64) 2863/2552

Cost option 1 099$.

Expensive options Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz (T7400). In the White – disk 120 GB, in the black – disk 160 GB (both 5 400 rpm).

Geekbench 2 black and white options with 2.16 GHz scored, points. In the numerator – points similar options (Late 2006):

(32) 2793/2610
(64) 3163/2863

Cost: the white version with the 2.16 GHz – 1 $ 299, black – 1 $ 499.
