In early November it became known that Apple will introduce the iPhone with support for 5G-Internet only in 2020. As at the moment the company does not produce its own communication modules, it is necessary to look for their supplier. Because of litigation, Qualcomm immediately disappears from the list of candidates, it is therefore considered that the supplier will be Intel. Think the name 5G modem for iPhone of 2020 is already known — it could be announced with Intel XMM 8160 5G.

It is reported that the modem supports not only networks of the fifth generation, but the old standards: 4G, 3G and even 2G. To support old technologies third-party manufacturers use multiple boards, but XMM 8160 will modem all-in-one.

Using one card can significantly save space inside the device. So, the space can be used to install a more capacious battery. Also the compact size will allow the modem to become part of small devices “Internet of things”. It is noteworthy that one of the main features of 5G networks will be a liaison not only between people but also between the appliances.

The modem can provide speed of data transfer at 6 Gbps and is up to 6 times the speed of modern LTE modems. Also it will support all the necessary frequencies from 600 MHz to 6 GHz and is compatible even with mmWave frequencies, starting with 24 GHz.

Electronics manufacturers will have new modems in 2019, but with the devices they will be available only in 2020. Rush companies and even more users, nowhere. The deployment of 5G networks will occur at best at the end of 2019.
